Inspiring Women to Realize Their Potential Since 1893
About Us
About Alpha Xi
National HistoryIn 1893, ten young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. Their dream became Alpha Xi Delta, one of the oldest womens fraternities in the United States. The timeless ideals envisioned by Alpha Xi Deltas Founders remain constant throughout the years, inspiring pride in each member to pursue individual excellence. Now a national fraternity with more than 149,000 initiated members, our Fraternity is a progressive organization with college chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States. Alpha Xi Delta is proud of its rich history and lasting impact on its members and the Panhellenic community. In fact, Alpha Xi Deltas first National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) Chairman wrote the Panhellenic Creed, which all members of NPC still recite on college campuses today. Alpha Xi Deltas Founders left us a great legacy. They taught us the value of education because it frees us to achieve our goals and gives us the power to be whatever we choose. They taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They taught us to serve others and reach out to better the lives of those less fortunate. Because of them, Alpha Xi Delta continues to inspire countless bold and talented women to realize their potential.Since Alpha Xi Deltas founding over 118 years ago, we continue to enrich the lives of women throughout the world with by emphasizing the ideals our Founders instilled in our Fraternity: sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service to our communities. We fully embrace these ideals and the opportunity to bring them to college women. Finding that the options were not up to their standards, they created a new organization, Xi Delta. They promised to leave a unique change at Florida International University for years to come. From Xi Deltas inception they created a chapter like no other. Highlighting the importance of class, grace, intelligence and well roundness, Xi Delta continued to grow. FAQ's
Dear Potential New Member, On behalf of all the sisters of the Theta Xi Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Florida International University, I would like to thank you for your interest in our organization. I would like to inform you that Alpha Xi Delta actively participates in formal recruitment every Fall semester, in which we anxiously anticipate the arrival of another ama-Xi-ng new member class. Alpha Xi Delta looks for outstanding women who seek excellence and improvement in every aspect of their lives. It feels as if it were yesterday that I was in your shoes and going through the recruitment process where I found my second home in Alpha Xi Delta. Recruitment is the beginning to a memorable and everlasting journey, one that you will not regret and definitely never forget. Greek life offers countless opportunities to expand and enrich your collegiate experience here at Florida International University by helping and guiding you in the paths and steps you want to take towards the success of your personal, academic, and community goals. Alpha Xi Delta provides our members with leadership opportunities that will aid in each one of our members personal growth and encourage them to continue to do so by inspiring others as well. We also offer the ability to lend a helping hand to others throughout the nation and in the South Florida community by participating in various service and philanthropic events. Our mission is to realize our potential by growing within the bonds of sisterhood. As Alpha Xi Deltas motto states, our organization inspires each member to realize their potential to their utmost capacity, while maintaining a balance between their academic and social endeavors. From the day that you become a member of Alpha Xi Delta, you are part of a sisterhood that spans over a hundred years. The sisters of Alpha Xi Delta at Florida International University are excited to show you why Alpha Xi Delta was the best decision for us. We look forward to meeting you! Q. How well do Alpha Xi Deltas do academically? We take academics very seriously, Alpha Xi Delta has held the highest cumulative GPA of any campus organization at Florida International University. Q. Are Alpha Xi Deltas involved on campus? YES! Our sisters are involved in many things here at Florida International University. We have ladies who actively participate and hold positions in the Student Government Association, Student Programming Council, Peer Advising, Panther Rage, Greek Programming Board, Dance Marathon, Student Alumni Association, Order of Omega, Order of the Torch, and Homecoming. Our involvement does not stop there, we also donate our time to philanthropic organizations and events such as Relay for Life, Alternative Spring Break, and countless others. Q. This is my first semester in college, and I'm worried about being able to handle the time commitment a sorority will demand. How much time will I be involved with Alpha Xi Delta? We feel that you will get as much out of something as you put into it. As a new member, you will be required to attend one new member meeting a week as well as a few other activities (i.e. New Member Retreat). Other than that, everything is optional and you'll want to attend because it's all so fun. However, in Alpha Xi Delta, academics always come first, so we encourage you to take care of your grades before getting involved. Also know that older sisters are always there to help you through your New Member process. Q. How does Alpha Xi Delta give back to the community? Alpha Xi Delta's new national philanthropic project is Autism Speaks. Our chapter raises money through different events for our national philanthropy. Our sisters gain hands-on experience with children by working with local organizations like the Ronald McDonald House and the Children's Home Society. We actively volunteer with these organizations and also at other events for the community throughout the year. We also have a local philanthropy that the FIU Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta created. It is the De Michele Youth against Cancer Foundation and it created on behalf one of our very own who was diagnosed with cancer. Q. What social activities does Alpha Xi Delta offer? Alpha Xi Delta has numerous social events, such as Fall Ball, Spring Formal, Crush Party, Date Dash, and themed mixers. We also hold family events, like the Family Picnic, Mother-Daughter Brunch, Father-Daughter Bowling and sporting events like Football Tailgates, our first ever Xi Cup and Fuzzie Football. Q. Do Alpha Xi Deltas compete in intramural sports? Alpha Xi Delta is very involved with athletics too. Alpha Xi Delta has teams for intramural volleyball, flag football, and softball in the Fall and basketball, soccer in the Spring. Q. I don't know if I fit the "sorority girl" stereotype. Good! Neither do we. Alpha Xi Delta is made up of women who contribute their leadership skills and personal talents to the sorority in their own way. There's something for everyone in Alpha Xi Delta. We are not all the same and do not expect you to be the same either. Q. I am not sure if the whole sorority thing is for me. Why go Greek? Being Greek at FIU is one of the best ways to enrich your academic experience on campus. It is very important that in college you become a well-rounded individual and also have a good time. Alpha Xi Delta wants to and WILL help you achieve all those things.Alpha Xi Delta will also make the big FIU campus feel a lot smaller and more at home. We also highly encourage going through the recruitment process even if you are unsure. If you decide you do not want to join an organization, you can still get a lot out of the recruitment process. You will come away with a better understanding of what Greek Life is all about. You also have a great chance to meet a variety of people and potentially make life long friends. Q. What does Alpha Xi Delta have to offer me? Alpha Xi Delta can offer you the chance to become part of a sisterhood like no other. We pride ourselves on what we stand for and how we can help those around us. Our Founders left us a great legacy. They taught us the value of education because it would free us to achieve our goals and give us the power to be whatever we choose to be. They taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They taught us to serve others, to reach out to those less fortunate to make their lives better. Common Questions for Parents I am worried about the Greek life stereotypes I have heard about. First of all and most importantly, Alpha Xi Delta does not haze. Both Florida International University and Alpha Xi Delta have strict policies against hazing. We never intend to make any sisters, old or new, do anything they don't want to do. Our point in Alpha Xi Delta is to make your daughter feel welcome and at home. What is hazing and does Alpha Xi Delta haze? Hazing is when any person or group inflicts or intends to inflict physical or mental harm to another individual. FIU has a strict policy about hazing and therefore, there is absolutely no hazing of members involved. Is a sorority paying for your friends? Absolutely NOT!!! Yes, there are dues to be paid but they go to events and things are bought for the sorority and its members. If my daughter joins a sorority will her grades will suffer? Alpha Xi Delta has resources available to help your daughter keep her grades up. We have sisters in almost every major willing to help with scheduling classes, study for tests, and lend you their notes and used books. We also have chapter incentives that reward sisters for getting an A on a test and not skipping class. If Alpha Xi Delta teaches your daughter anything, it will teach her the time management skills that will help throughout her college career. How much time does it take? Being in a sorority does take time, commitment, hard-work, and dedication, but with time management skills anyone can make time for everything. Many of our sisters go to school full-time and work full-time and still have time.

Academics
Academic Achievement
At Alpha Xi Delta, one of our four main pillars is "knowledge". Through our academic achievement program, which encourages and aids chapter members in achieving academic success we assist our sisters in realizing their scholastic and personal potential. We offer various services to sisters which include tutoring and help with time management. We have had the highest gpa out of all greek life organization for the past 22 semesters. We offer several rewards to sisters who reach the deans list, as well as offer various scholarships for sisters. Whenever a sister is in a need there is always a sister to lend a helping hand, especially during exam week!
Socials
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
At Alpha Xi Delta, our calendar is filled with exciting events including socials, date dash, crush parties, tailgates, formals, sisterhood events, and more. We coordinate several events throughout the year with other fraternities and sororities. Socials are a great time for everyone to get creative with themes like "Jungle to Jungle", "Famous Couples", "Wacky Tacky", and "Barbie Party". We travel to different locations where we hold our annual date dash. We especially look forward to our annual Killarney Ball and our winter formal. Whether it’s a night at the movies or a night on the town, there is never a dull moment in the life of an AXiD. With Alpha Xi Delta, family is a huge part of our sorority. We have our annual mother/daughter brunch and father/daughter bowling. We also have parent chapters and picnics, which our parents love! Whatever the occasion, we always know how to have a great time!
